Our lovely hygienist Kayleigh shares her Top 6 tips to making your oral hygiene routine more Eco-friendly.

1. Ensure you always turn the tap water off whilst brushing.
The most basic and simple tip of them all and a great one to teach very small children to help them create good habits in being more Eco-friendly.
2. Don’t rinse after brushing
In addition, you will get maximum benefit from your toothpaste if you spit and don’t rinse AND save water.
3. Try Bamboo products (or other sustainable material)
Bamboo is naturally sustainable, organic and cruelty free material. Therefore another great way to be more Eco-friendly.

Just ensure that the the toothpaste contains 1450ppm of fluoride

5. Research your favourite brands
Firstly, Tepe have recently reduced their carbon footprint by 80% and its interdental brushes are made from Pine oil. Subsequently they aim to be carbon neutral by 2022.
Secondly, Tepe has partnered with Canon Hygiene Ltd to introduce a pilot recycling scheme for interdental brushes.
In addition, the TePe Environmental Recycling Initiative (TERI) will provide dental patients and staff with the UK’s first pilot recycling solution for interdental brushes. Hopefully more information on this will be coming in the next few months.
By researching our favourite brands to see how THEY are going to be more Eco-friendly therefore helps us make the right decision on which brands we want to continue using.
6. Recycle oral care products with Terracycle Scheme
Find your local recycling box on the website: https://www.terracycle.com/en-GB/
For example the products accepted are: Plastic toothbrushes, electric toothbrush heads, toothpaste tubes and caps, toothbrush and toothpaste packaging.
